Wake up, it's National Logistics Day.

Today, June 28th is a day to recognize the critical role logistics plays in our daily lives—and I don't mean just those working in the space.

Logistics is the lifeblood of the global economy. Efficient logistics systems enable businesses to reach markets worldwide, fostering international trade and economic growth. As a major employer, the industry impact extends by providing jobs to millions of people worldwide.

So, at the heart, supply chain and logistics is people. From the people making the goods, ordering the good to moving the goods, people are the catalyst.

Considering the livelihood of the people around us, the impact logistics can have in a time of need is underscored. When disasters happen and communities are struggling, the swift action and ability of the logistics business gets things done. Nikki Clifton, president of the UPS Foundation, explains the unique position of logistics companies to deliver critical humanitarian aid today.

"The challenges of navigating limited entry points, multi-party operations and instability in places like Ukraine and Sudan, have proven how difficult it can be to quickly mobilize and distribute goods. At UPS and The UPS Foundation for example, we understand that collaboration between logistics providers and humanitarian organizations is crucial to providing vital goods and services at the right time and in the right quantities. Last year, our team supported over 50 disasters and humanitarian crises around the world, assisting with in-kind logistical support for disaster response and post-crisis recovery," says Clifton. "We have seen firsthand the impact that preparedness, mobilization, innovation and collaboration can have on improving health outcomes and delivering critical support to impacted communities. This World Logistics Day, I invite others to join us in this endeavor and leverage their logistics capabilities to help those in need.”

Today is a reminder of the profound impact the industry has on our world and on us as individuals. As the backbone of many crucial components in the livelihood of society, celebrating this day is a door to exploring and appreciating the capabilities of logistics in the 21st century.
